The rainbow is a powerful and widely recognized symbol in sandtray therapy, often associated with hope, promise, and the presence of light during dark or uncertain times. Clients may use the rainbow as a beacon—something to orient toward when navigating grief, trauma, fear, or transition. It can represent optimism, resilience, and the belief that something meaningful or life-giving exists beyond the current struggle.

At the same time, the rainbow carries rich layers of inclusivity and identity. For many clients, it symbolizes diversity, acceptance, belonging, and the freedom to exist authentically. Its presence in the tray can open space for conversations about identity, safety, visibility, and community, especially for those exploring who they are and where they belong.

This rainbow is designed with flexibility in mind. The pieces can be taken apart and placed around, over, or between other miniatures—allowing clients to create bridges, shelters, protective covers, or symbolic connections. When stacked together, it can also function as a boundary, marker, or focal point, offering structure, containment, or a sense of order within the tray.
