Carmen’s FAFO sign

We learn consequences in different ways. This bold sign represents both a challenge and a warning — and in the sandtray, it may bring forward memories of confrontation, aggression, boundaries, empowerment, or resilience.

The original FAFO sign was black with white lettering. For this special edition, we turned it dark and light purple to honor Carmen Jimenez-Pride, as purple was her favorite color. 💜

Carmen was a visionary social worker, trauma therapist, play therapy leader, and beloved sister to so many. Her life was a testimony to healing, innovation, and love for community. She spent more than 15 years guiding children, families, and adults through life’s hardest challenges. Beyond her therapeutic work, she built tools that continue to change lives — from Focus on Feelings®, an emotional literacy curriculum used by clinicians worldwide, to Diversity in Play Therapy, an organization that centers cultural humility and representation in every space it enters.

What made Carmen extraordinary was not just her long list of accomplishments, but her heart. She believed deeply in the power of representation, giving voice to racial and cultural trauma, and ensuring that Black women, children, and families saw themselves reflected in the therapeutic process.

💜 This miniature is named Carmen’s FAFO Sign in her honor. All proceeds will go toward the Carmen Jimenez-Pride Memorial Scholarship, which supports African American women pursuing social work degrees at the University of South Carolina and Benedict College. In the event the scholarship is fully funded, proceeds will be directed to another cause close to Carmen’s heart.
